Answer me these few questions:
1. Why are we so passionate about mission trips and not the mission?
2. Are we created a culture of students and adults that think it is more admirable to attend, inspire, share, give to a mission trip than “the mission”?
3. Why do we come home and watch “slide shows” of mission trips and never show a slide show of reaching our campus for Christ locally or winning our co-worker to Christ?
4. Why do we become so passionate about foreign soil and not so exuberant about familiar soil?
5. Why will we hand a tract to a stranger in a impoverished area or another country share our faith, but not lead our home with Christ centricity?
6. Why do we commission foreign missionaries and not local church members on mission?
7. Do you believe today that you are a missionary in service to tell your family, friends, and co-workers the message of the gospel?
8. Do you believe that your local church is a mission center, training and sending out missionaries to change your city or town?
9. Why do so many raise thousands to go on mission and struggle to give to their local mission?
10. Why do we feel it is more important to go to another speaking nation to share before with share our neighbors?
11. What will we feel on judgement day if we shared with the inner city, miles away, and our father, mother, brother, sister, teacher, co-laborer, coach, never knew the life changing message of the Gospel?
12. Do you believe a “mission trip” is to be brought home with a readiness, and fervor to communicate Jesus message?

Christopher Hopper says,
Jesus said that prophets are only without honor in their own land. And so often he was sending people he touched back into their home towns. Why? Because he didn’t, and still doesn’t, want us addicted to honor. If we can minister to people at home–and see the mission and not a missions trip–then we can truly be trusted with glory that attracts nations to the brightness of Him. Thanks for the thought provoking questions, brother. ch:

Leslie Moon says,
This hit me right in the gut! I have been praying that the Lord would make me a strong witness in my family and local community. Sharing my faith with my family and friends is so hard for me and I feel like it is because the ones closest to me know all my flaws and all the things I did in the past. I hate the feeling of rejection so the thought that someone may not accept what I tell them always sticks in the back of my mind. I also struggle with the right words to say instead of relying on God to provide the message. I believe that sharing my faith and the gospel with others should be a top, if not the top priority, of a born again Christian and its the one I struggle with the most.

I think you’ve once again asked the “$64,000 questions!” Something I’ve never forgotten is a professor at Bible College telling me that missions starts at the tip of my nose wherever I may be – Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, the outermost parts of the world. What about the lost souls in our own towns? Jesus mentioned those areas in order – our own town first, then area, then state, then world. Thanks, Shannon, for the reminder as so many of us leave our towns this summer for mission trips – to not forget the mission at home!

Mark Farmer says,
I believe that people still see that the USA as being the mighty force in teaching God’s Word. They do not see that more missionaries are come here now because of our nation turning more to worldliness. Not many see that how people hunger for the truth. I am glad to see that there are some that see our nation needs to be feed the word of God. Tell them about Jesus, not just mention Him, but really tell them how much He loves them. There is a great revival coming and the adversaries are working harder than ever to stop as many people as he can from learning about Jesus. Because the more he can keep from knowing the time he has. God says that when “All” have been told about Jesus, he will return. Folks, that time is so close. All the believers in Christ get ready, our new body is fixing to be given. Hallelujah, Praise God.

Sherie Hammonds says,
Mission trips that are outside of our community and family can provide a way to stay in our comfort zone. We dont know the people in distant places and will go all out because maybe we wont see these people again and we dont have to wonder what they think about us everytime we pass them on the street or wait on them at Colton’s! We need to get outside of our comfort zones and crack down on the witnessing at home as well! I am convicted!
