DNA

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 17 July 2009

dnaThere is a DNA found in a child of God that is unmistakable. The Holy Scripture teaches us in Matthew 7:20 “by their fruit you will know them.” People will see the “resemblance” of Christ in your day to day living if you are a Christ Follower. Here is the opposites of God DNA mentioned here in Galations 5:19-21 “It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on. This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.” (The Message) .
The DNA of the Spirit of God is demonstrated through the fruit in Galatians 5:22-26 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

In this video I demonstrate this DNA truth…watch and let me know what you think!

I have been reading in Matthew in my quiet time but I also receive a great women’s devotional by email every morning as well. Today’s devotional was on this very scripture as well Gal.5:22-23 It also had this sccripture 2 Corth.2:14-16a But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. to the one we are the smell of death and the other the fragrance of life. The devotional discussed a lot about What smell does your life give off? That our attitudes and conversations give off a smell. They can be like Gal.5:22-23 with joy, love, kindness, etc. or be like the previous verses: small minded, loveless, etc. I had to ask myself a question: Are those around me drawn to Christ when they are around me as a result of my love? It was great to read and meditate on this scripture and then read your blog. Because I feel like it constantly goes back to living a life of love so others can see Christ and want to know him. IT is a challenge but it is all so beautiful as well. I never knew God loved us so much and the last two weeks He has revealed this over and over to me. I praise him so much for his love and that I can be what He wants me to be. Thanks for such a great message on application of scripture to take it to a new level in our lives.
