Do You Worry?

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 04 September 2009

worryWorry is a sin. Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything…” The opposite of worry is trust. Why do you worry? Who is your trust in? Here are my top four struggles with worry:
1) Finances
2) Failure
3) Family
4) Friends

What are your greatest worries?
Watch this video and see if you agree with this definition of worry and let me know what you think.

  1. Pat N. says,

I need to constantly remind myself that worrying is a sin — and is equivalent to telling God that I do not trust him. Our God is so much larger than any of our problems…all of our junk.

My biggest struggles with worry are very much the same:

    1) Finances have always been a struggle. Primarily because our family fell into bad habits from the start of our marriage. We lived beyond our means, and still at times lives to a standard that is beyond our income. Being obedient with our tithe was a huge start for us in the right direction…and it has been amazing how God has so richly blessed us financially since we began to tithe obediently and with joy. We have more $ after tithing at the end of the month now than we did before…God has a way of raining down financial blessings to those who give offerings with joy.

    2) Failure is also my #2 goal. As a “self made” man in the work field I am a part of the competition to succeed is great. When you live beyond your income the pressure to succeed is even greater. What I’ve found is that as my relationship with Christ grows His hand is seemingly on everything I touch and when I praise Him for every success He continues to pour it on. Even with all my shortcomings His blessings just keep on coming.

    3) My third worry is the protection and provision for my family as I get older, or if I were disabled or in an accident and died, etc. This is certainly a trust issue…certainly the attitude that “I” need to provide, and that “I” alone take care of my family. It is an attitude that is left over from before the time I became a Christ follower…and something that I still struggle with. I think this will also fade away as I learn to trust God fully. Certainly I have a responsibility to work hard to provide for my family, but my trust is God is that he’ll multiply my efforts.

Oops……..strike that “failure” is my #2 goal…….failure isn’t a goal…..I meant that failure is the #2 thing I struggle with.

  3. Mark Farmer says,

They is a such thing as worry, but if you do worry about things, you have not given it all over to God.
I had worry in my life for a long time, then I turned it ” ALL ” over to God. I do not worry about
    1) Finances
    2) Failure
    3) Family
    4) Friends
I may not have what some call enough, but I do have the richest of all things, a relationship with Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father, the creator of all in my heart.
When you give it all to God and let God take care of your life, there is nothing better than letting the one of truth take all your worries away.

    Matthew 6:31-34

    31. Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

    32. (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

    33. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    34. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

  4. Lacie says,

Last week during service you talked about anxiety and you said medication is a waste. I understand that worrying is a sin, but I struggle with it. So, I was wondering why you think taking this is a not needed?
