Mother's Day - if we didn't charge to cover the cost then the Church could be accused of wasting money feeding members instead of feeding the poor and hungry in the community. The Cafe isn't like Star Bucks. It's not in the lobby as a money making venture for the Church. It's there as a watering hole for folks to gather and fellowship. There is free regular coffee and I've often seen free snacks as well being served. I serve in the children's area and parents often come a few minutes early to fellowship at the Cafe. It's not a bad thing. There is only a charge for the speciality drinks and soda pop, etc. Personally, I'm glad it's there, since I'm always out of gum and can stop by and get some. BNC is not the only church I've attended. I've fixed lots of potluck dishes to take to other churches and these dishes cost money to prepare. So in a way, I'm paying for my meal by sharing my dish with others who have also brought food. I honestly can't remember a time when a church, other than BNC, has provided the full meal at no charge. By the way, BNC, has had free of charge dinners. Please continue to come to BNC with an open heart and mind ready to hear some really good preaching of God's word that you will actually remember the next day and can apply to what is happening in your life. And, if for some reason you can't remember what it was about, you can always download it and listen again. Please attend a few more times before you decide if BNC is the right church for you. Please don't judge BNC based on a $4.00 charge for a dinner.

This is going to be my only post about this issue, and then I'm going to leave it to whomever wants to twist my words around...

Karen, I find it a little sad that you are taking it upon yourself to be the voice of the people of Southside who may feel anger or frustration toward Shannon. Taking a stand for what you believe is one thing... but stepping out in such a slanderous way to protest what GOD is doing at BNC assuredly makes a lot of people glad that it has steered away from that direction. I never attended Southside, and I have yet to hear an account of what happened that contained both sides, and so I'm going to trust in The Lord to put my heart in the right place. I trust in my pastor and my friend that he's done what is right and desired by God. I went from drinking, partying, failing morally and ethically, and tons of addictions, to walking around knowing that God has forgiven me, lives in me, and will carry me when I am too weak to walk - I serve in several areas at BNC, and I can assure you that it isn't this shady, crooked, organization that has set out to rape the community of it's resources like what you make it out to be. If God intended for his churches to remain small, and stereotypical, then he would have sent his Son to the cross for just a few hundred - but instead, Jesus died on the cross for ALL of us. He will forgive you for attacking one of his anointed ones, as he will forgive me where I have fallen short. I am going to pray for you, Karen... and those who you speak for. My prayer for EVERYONE is that we stop looking through our own eyes, hearing with our own ears, and speaking with our own tongues, and start living, breathing, speaking, seeing, seeing, and acting for God. At the end of the day, if he's not glorified, nothing else you do matters. (yes, this applies for me, too)

I will attend again just to see the what else goes on there. Can't wait to see what else that is not of God.

Ms. Mother's Day,
Something you may not have been aware of is that unlike alot of churches, ours doesn't have a full kitchen to prepare such meals. Yesterday's meal was catered; Might I add, absolutely wonderful! I too, am a mom and even though it was $4.00/person or $12/whole family maximum, it was less than any other place in town, the desserts were amazing & so was the fellowship!
I do hope that you will return again. We are NOT about the money, we are about Christ and growing the church for HIS kingdom.

Yesterday I went to Brand New Church and they had a mother's day BBQ. Well I was going to stay and eat but they were charging $4.00 a person. I have never gone to a church that charged meal like this, fund raiser yes but for mother's day. This was not a fund raiser it was a meal to show how important Mothers are and to celebrate them. Jesus did not charge any amount to money to feed the 5000. This shows me that Brand New Church is all about money, I have read that it was but now I know that Brand New Church is about money and not of God.
