When mile markers show up on the journey of my life and specifically concerning my leadership they benefit me greatly. In this case they will benefit my family, marriage, staff and Brand New Church. These are not all pretty, but true realities of what I have become and what I must change. Here are the markers God has shown me:
#1 I felt entitled to Success…(I told you it was ugly)
God must love the sacrifice I am making leading and serving in Rural America, so I am entitled to a growing, blessed church. This is so far from the truth, but it is where I have found myself. We know that a growing church happens through prayer, hard work, great study, relational investment, uncompromised declaration from the flawless Word of God, and old school outreach! That is what started the growth and that is how it will continue!
#2 Neglect of the Primary Purpose
What is the primary purpose…TRANSFORMED LIVES!!! Distractions, adventures, creative intensity, staff “issues”. Any family, organization, or church is doomed to demise when it loses its focus in fear of what is next. That “was” me, but no longer. We will be staff centered on “building God’s church” and watching lives transform.
#3 “What” takes the place of “Why”
What next, was inching out, Why are we doing it. This has discouraged me and rattled me at the same time. BNC will be a “Why” first organization, then “Why Not”. Then we will look to the what’s next.
#4 Lost my learning Curve
The last few months I have found myself putting fires out, more than growing the blaze in my own leadership development. The Word of God has been alive, but I have not been reading leadership, parenting, theology writings to stretch my capacity to influence.
This has been a great few days of growing and I know He is going to continue growing me. What mile markers has passed by to quickly in your life you need to heed and read? Let me know and comment away!! Be gentle.

YES!!! Back to the real basics! It was hurting so much that we had left simple church. In fact, on Brenton Miles recommendation I just started reading Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger’s book “Simple Church,” after hearing Chris Caine speak on building on the blueprint that God has made for each of us and for our churches–for His church (I’ll loan you her DVDs when you return), and because of the heart God has been growing in me for simple, real, Jesus-style discipling. GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Shannon O’Dell, you said, “Can’t wait to share God’s Word this weekend…what does the Bible say about Ghost?”
