Sneak Peek

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 24 April 2009

transforming-church-cover-22I am so expectant about sharing God’s passion for Rural America. The most churched area in the world might be the most distant from the heart of God. How do we grow God’s church in small town America with a passion to reach and love the people God was preoccupied with…the lost? In just a few short months “Transforming Church in Rural America” will hit bookshelves nation wide.

Congatulations, Shannon on such a great milestone for you as a leader. What I already appreciate about your book is knowing that it’s not a book on theory of how to grow a church…its pages will be filled with everything you have invested as a leader into building one of the most effective churches in America in only 5 years. It must be incredible seeing the vision of this “first” book come to fruition. I am very happy for you and am equally as excited to see its impact on churches in rural America.

I can’t wait to read this book! I was saved in a dying small town church (get that, dying and church in the same sentence), and currently live in a small town. I have a tremendous burden for my small town and would love some insight on impacting my community.

  6. John says,

Can’t wait to read this book Shannon. I want to see how you tell about….well you know.. is it the truth or is it all about the way you are following Rick Warren and the other false teachers, the vision that you say you got from GOD. CAN’T WAIT to read a fictional book from you.

  7. arlington says,

You might want to check out Revelation 3. This reminds me of BNC so much.

“I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”

Shannon, you might also want to read Luke 8:17

“There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and there is nothing secret that will not become known and come to light”

  9. question says,

is there a chapter on being healthy? I mean rural america is pretty unhealthy? last time I checked, God uses everyone no matter what they look like, healthy or unhealthy. The Gospel does not change based on looks… I was looking over the last few blog topics, and I am little upset that there was a sermon on being Healthy. When the Gospel is preached and when there is a sermon on how God can change someones lives, then the people will see how Powerful God’s love is for us.

    • Ashley says,

Maybe you should visit BNC, instead of relying on the blogs to form your opinion. What you missed about the message on being healthy, was that being healthy brings glory to God, and makes us more effective for Christ. Every message at BNC is about God changing lives. But you won’t know that unless you visit.

Blessings are still coming Shannon, this means God is happy in what you are doing to fill all the chairs in his house. If this book is anything, like the Pastor I am begining to know, I can’t wait to read some truth, I hear it’s good for the soul!!! Remain blessed Shannon and family.. You show how good God can be!!!

  11. CJ says,

I have been reading the blogs from this and three others and am amamzed at the stupidity and gossip I have read. Doesn’t anyone have better things to do than bash a man of God??? An ATM related to the money changers in the Bible? Do you ever have a bake sale or a raffle to send youth to camp? Money changing there as well!!! A message on Sex-Drugs-Marriage-Health is wrong you say??? NOT AT ALL!!! My God placed these topics all thru His word and he wants the message to come thru loud and clear that we are in ungodly times and just salvation without being discipled won’t bring in more lost souls. Shannon Odell is a FISHER OF MEN!!! He uses what the word says and brings a message for the day, for the times we live in, and for what we need to live a healthy, productive, faithful in marriage or single life, and how to bring up our children. We can’t be called fishermen if we don’t fish. We can’t catch fish in the yard, we must go where they are and they are everywhere around us. Shannon and BNC go where the unsaved (fish) are. He brings a message that touches the lives we live now, what we are up against daily, and how to overcome what satan throws at us all of the time. He gives us guidence from God’s word by the power of the Holy Spirit. The word even says that God uses many avenues to bring the lost to Christ. There are no lies at BNC, no brainwashing and manipulating. Satan has kept you all from being blessed above what you can imagine thru the teachings at BNC and he has won in the lives of those who point an accusing finger and spread gossip. Take time to visit and listen to what Shannon says and how he teaches the word then make a decision. One visit or listening to him on the video is like choosing a car before you take the time to drive it.
Jesus said to follow Him and He will make us to BECOME fishers of men. Are you all who cut down and make false statements about BNC and Shannon really fishers of men or people who hang out on the dock and yell orders at the boats that go by even though you are not fishing with them.
Shannon and BNC have my support.

  12. Looking for Help says,

WOW, so you are tell us CJ that nothing that is said against BNC or Shannon is all false. That sounds like a “perfect church”, that means I can go to BNC and everyone one there will talk to me, welcome me and be me friend, that is unreal. Count me in. I like to smoke, drink, and cuss, is this okay with BNC?

    on 27 April 2009 / 3:22 PM

  13. Skipper says,

Whether or not it’s OK with BNC doesn’t really matter.

What matters is whether or not it’s OK with God. YOUR walk with Christ will change you. Some people it’s a step by step change…with others it’s an immediate change.

But there’s not one of us that can make those choices for you. Are you spending time with God each day, reading His word? Are you praying for your enemies? Are you loving your neighbor? Are you giving Him everything? That’s what’s OK with BNC!

His commandments are simple Love God. Love people. That is all.

  14. Ashley says,

I’m so proud of you Shannon! You know that we are behind you 100%! And all I can say to the nay-sayers is “CHANGED LIVES”. Mine included!!! Shannon ODell and BNC brought my husband and I back from death. We were truly on the brink of losing everything, due to our own sin, and because of the shepherding provided to us thru Shannon and the church, we now have a “BRAND NEW” life. It speaks for itself. Something must be going right, lives are changing all around me in this church! I say bring on the ATM, easy access for those who tithe, bring on the helicopter so our Pastor doesn’t have to travel the state every weekend as he is doing now, bring on the messages about health, sex, drugs, etc. because I have a pre-teen daughter that definitely needs the word of God (as do I)! It is beyond me why people would fight so hard against something they know nothing about (the tranformation once the Holy Spirit gets a hold in you). And it’s obvious that the nay-sayers know nothing about that, or they wouldn’t be behaving in such an un-loving way.

    BTW, I love the cover!

  16. Doug says,

One great way to know you’re making a big difference is when you get on hell’s hit list.

One great way to know you’re on hell’s hit list is when “Christians” come out of the woodwork and bash you for no other reason than trying to prop themselves up in their own eyes.

Lots of folks with eternities changed because of the work the Holy Spirit is doing through obedient servants at BNC. That’s the bottom line. That’s what matters.

    Keep it up.

  17. CJ says,

THERE ARE NO PERFECT CHURCHES, JUST A PERFECT GOD AND HIS SON WHO FORGIVES US. I am from another state and have only visited BNC with my son and his family. I knew Shannon when he went to Eagle Heights Baptist with my sons in the late 80′s and early 90′s. I felt the Spirit move at BNC and when I view the messages from the past Sunday services. The call on Shannon’s life is evident in all he does and delegates at BNC. Jealousy runs rampant within these blogs. There is only one issue I have with BNC and that is they don’t have enough time to continue the 30 Day Journal past the 30 days. I love the messages and keep them, email them to family and friends, and use them often as a witnessing tool. I wish they could become the 12 Month Journal.
May the Lord continue to bless BNC and all who serve and attend there.

  18. David Ruth says,

Wow,you must be very proud. Since you posted YOUR book, on YOUR blog. Seems to be the new thing….PRIDE….I’m not certain, but I think it’s what got satan kicked outta heaven?

    on 29 April 2009 / 8:37 AM

    • Robbie Evans says,

David, Shannon is all about pride and selfishness, he says it all the time about how prideful & selfish he is.

      on 29 April 2009 / 10:46 AM

    • David –

Shannon will be the first to tell you he battles pride. I think that’s more of an update than anything… but it IS his book that he’s writing about on HIS blog. I don’t, personally, think Shannon’s got to worry about being proud of himself… his friends, family, and church are PLENTY proud of him. I know that I am.

      Congratualtions Shannon

      on 29 April 2009 / 11:08 AM

      • doingwhatyoudo says,

hey Derek Simpkins – you know being full of pride is not a good thing, its a sin. How do you feel about your pastor sinning?

        on 01 May 2009 / 5:13 PM

      • I feel the same as any other Christian would… I love him for who he is. We’re all sinners. There’s only one that ever walked on this earth that was without sin, and we call him Jesus. Next question, please.

        on 01 May 2009 / 10:47 PM

  19. Brian Ahern says,

Shannon – Looking forward to the read and how it will help us reach the lost mission field in America. Thanks for giving me additional clarity for rural America! Keep up the great work.

    on 30 April 2009 / 1:05 PM

  20. John says,

Derek Simpkins,,, Shannon maybe battle pride but he is doing it daily because he is so proud of the money he is bring in. Shannon has built himself an empire to his liking, not Gods. He talks about in one of his blog videos that the veil ripped from top to bottom and now God is in you. That is right but with God being in you now God is with us anywhere and always. So when you sell purposely in a church building you are doing the same. Shannon thinks that by telling you that God is in you now that makes it okay to sell in a church, it is like telling you that God’s Spirit is not in your church ( BNC ). This is a very false statement just like Shannon is a false pastor.

  21. I not too long ago bought a humminbird fish finder and I cant wait to get out and land a hawg with it. I feel lowrance are the most affordably priced but humminbird is the most effective for quality hands down.

  23. I need to say, as much as I appreciated reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a fantastic grasp on the matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Maybe you should take into consideration this from more than 1 direction. Or perhaps you shouldn’t generalise so much. It’s better if you think of what other people may have to express as opposed to just going for a gut reaction on the subject. Think of modifying your own notion procedure and giving other people who might read this the benefit of the doubt.
