The Beatitudes found in Matthew 5:1-12 are not suggestions from Jesus, they are mandates for a successful Kingdom focused life. The first is poor in Spirit and I give the definition here. Remember, the only way God can fill you, is when empty yourself.

Mark says,
I had wrote down, and drawn pictures of what you are talking about in this message just a few months ago. People need to understand more about being filled, and not having the junk in them that does not let you get a true filling of the Holy Spirit. Its like the glass being filled with water, if a person has sugar in the glass, and poured water into the glass, they would thank it is sweet. But, when the glass was not cleaned, it has all the old stuff in it that will blend with the sugar and water and make it not good (corrupt) and is not good to use. God looks at us in this way, if you keep some of the old you and want to be filled, God may give you a taste of the Spirit, but you are not “filled” with the Holy spirit because of all the junk ( old you ) still there.
Yes I would like the notes from this message.

I am so glad I was there Sunday to hear this message! Confession time: one of my fave shows is Desperate Housewives (I know, I know – complete trash!) and in an effort to “empty myself” of my own selfish priorities, I did not watch it Sunday night! My kids and I read a couple Bible stories instead!!! Afterwards we prayed together as a family and Lauryn (she’s 2) even bowed her head! She had her eyes closed so tight her little face was all smooshed up! This was a simple and painless sacrifice, but it reaped a huge blessing! Thank you Shannon for the amazing message. I needed to hear it.

Derek Simpkins says,
Awesome message, Shannon. I always enjoy how your messages open my eyes and slap me around a bit. This one was no different. While I saw the illustrations and examples, it still took it a bit to sink in. Finally, I realized that I was acutally going to have to dig deep to figure out what was getting in the way of God TRULY filling me up. I’ve definietely got to work on dumping out all my stuff so I can experience what it’s like to be completely full of what God wants to fill me up with. Looking forward to next week’s message.

Wasn’t in town Sunday … YES I want them if you’re offering. Going to watch the message too before this Sunday, but would love the notes! Oh man … I hate missing even one message. Poor me. I love Derek Simpkins comment “open my eyes and slap me around”. So sweet what you did with your little ones Leslie! My daughter and her husband do that every night with their 2 year old. Godly parents are my heroes.
