What is Moving Me Right Now!

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 01 December 2009

white-choc-pretzel-rodsMy life is always changing, as is yours, and my tastes are always diverse. If I was clicking the “add to my favorites” button these would be it:

#1 Hobbies –
Hunting with my boys! This is the first year I would rather see them harvest game than me. It is a privilege to have healthy children to experience the outdoors with.

#2 Music –
Hillsong-Faith Hope Love, Carrie Underwood-Play On (Especially “Change” singing it Sunday at BNC), Muse, Jesus Culture. The funniest and crazy song I have listened to lately is by Usher “Sign them Papers”…is he serious or is that satire?

#3 Movies –
Just watched “A Christmas Carole” with Jim Carrey and our family was mesmerized. You need to experience it this Christmas season. The Ghost could be a little spooky for younger children, but again a great flick.
(Christmas Vacation will be viewed this season as well…the TV edited version, of course.)

#4 Smells -
My fireplace is the smell I can’t get enough of and my wife’s pheromones. (I know I am A typical male!)

#5 Reading –
The Pauline Epistles are speaking to my spirit. Also, reading a ton of John MacArthur old messages and just finished “The Momentary Marriage” by John Piper (all you Reformed Theologians and Five Pointers relax, it’s just coincidence).

#6 Vocationally –
We have some of the greatest staff and staff volunteers in the history of Christendom! I am amazed at the growth and momentum of God in their lives and the life of Brand New Church!

#7 Christmas –
Two things I have got to purchase for my kids this Christmas…DJ Hero and Wii Nerf Blaster.
Christmas always moves me…the experience, the smells, the commercials, the decorations.
White Chocolate covered pretzel rods are similar to heavenly manna and will be consumed this Christmas.

#8 Favorite Restaurant –
Outback Steakhouse is always ringing my bell! The only problem is we don’t have one in Rural Bergman…I am always in the mood for a chili dog!

What is moving you? Can’t wait to hear from you.

Cool list, do these more! It seems too many pastors don’t like to declare anything moves them beyond what looks blatantly “holy”. All the things you mentioned…family, wife, good food, good art…”all good gifts come from above” and are, therefore, from God and holy.

Oh and you’re right…Christmas Carol rocked. Probably the most “Christian” movie I’ve seen in some time.

  2. #1 Writing. Finishing latest biofiction novel. Publisher wants another 13 pages cut by Friday.

#2 Cooking. Loved prepping all the T-day stuff. Always go for making biscuits and gravy from scratch on Saturday mornings.

#3 Ministry. My wife and I feel dead, or at least shunted to a side track. Craving opportunities to get involved helping people grow in Jesus. Yes, we teach children’s SS, but not enough.

#5 Definitely not coincidental, and dude the L should be an S. Sufficient not Limited. The only reason it was called Limited Atonement was because TUSIP doesn’t spell a word.

The Dirty water vibe is moving so big right now,
I keep hearing story after story of how people are branching it out. Us connecting and hanging with the guys from liquid church this weekend was definitely a high for my ministry career. Watch out 2010
