What You Can Do With a Few!

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 02 December 2009

BNC Nov 2009 017 What our Creative Arts Pastor, Zach Lee, can with a few hundred dollars is unbelievable. So many churches say, we don’t have the money, we could never to do that, only large churches could pull that off, and they are right if they have listened to the few. Our team at Brand New Church blows my mind every set change with just a few dollars. I want to show off what Zach, our full time Chicken Farmer/Bus Minister/Engineering Genius Bruce Medley and 70 volunteers pulled together for this “Blessed” Christmas series.

The White Trees- Trees were free, white paint was $15 a gallon and took 5 gallons total
The Christmas Ornaments – $5 in string to hang from the ceiling, $27 an ornament in material, 6 total
Christmas Lights – Were found in a church members attic and donated
Shimmery Curtain – $2 a yard and was leftover from another set
Lights for Trees – $7 flood lights

You can do this! Don’t settle this Christmas for an average atmosphere to communicate the most important message on earth!

On the left is my 15 year old daughter Anna and on the far right is my “hot” wife Cindy…I am so proud that they lead with passion and purity of heart. I am thankful that Zach is a leader that brings the gifts out of his worship leading volunteers. (Really, I just wanted to show off my beautiful family.)

Thanks again to Zach and Bruce not settling for a second rate experience even though resources are tight in a rural church. Dream big this Christmas season in your church, your family, your relationships, your finances, and your walk with Almighty God.
You too can do a lot with a few! (Photos provided by Julie Barnes of Jules Photography)

My wife, Ji (pronounced like the letter G), and I attend Liquid Church in New Brunswick, NJ. I clicked on a link that @richbirch posted on twitter and I found this. What an amazing set and for such a minimal dollar investment. Just shows what a passion for Christ and teamwork can really achieve.

  4. Thanks for sharing this Shannon. So cool. IMHO it makes some of the overblown sets look scrawny. (Oh yeah…you do have a nice looking family).

Delight, appreciation and joy were my sentiments when I walked into BNC last Sunday, because this place was so beautiful and packed with worshipers. What a moving and beautiful service. God reveals himself in the mist of great worship … I agree with Tori RE Bruce and Zach. Grateful to my church BNC. When we are grateful fear disappears and abundance appears!!!!!

There was a time when I could only experience worship like this when i went to conferences at mega-churches and i only dreamed of having access to this level of a worship experience at my home church.

Now I go to conferences and say, “Well, that was good, but it doesn’t come close to what I get to experience every Sunday!” We are so blessed!
