First Blog of 2010!

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 04 January 2010

blog_logo1I am sitting here by the fire writing my first blog (maybe the most important) entry of 2010 and I am busting at the seams with readiness. I am not only anticipating great things, I can sense God doing great things all around me. In my heart, my marriage, my kids lives and the church I  am privileged to serve. This Monday is (though snowy) is providing me with a whirlwind of ideas running through my head and I am ready to initiate them all. I realize though nothing significant will take place this year unless we are involving God every step of the way.

Here is what I need from you…PRAYER! Maybe you would commit to praying for me or utilize these principles to pray for your pastor or encourage your congregates to pray for you. Here is what I ask you to PRAY DAILY:

#1 Guard my Heart…
Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”
My heart is pulled by so many things, but I want The Spirit of God at the door, opening and closing as He leads.

#2 Guard my Marriage…
Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage should be honored by all…”
God’s plan for me always involves living out an obedient marriage. My call demands it. I know it is going to the best year ever with Cindy.

#3 Guard my Family…
Job 1:10 “”Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has?”
The enemy will attack whatever he can get his hands on. I don’t want that to be my kids. They are affected by everything in our lives. God is going to use them in a big way this year…pray!

#4 Guard my Ministry…
2 Corinthians 4:1 “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.”
2 Timothy 4:5 “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

This year is going to bring great challenges and great reward. I want to lead on the micro and macro level this year. God has pruned us and we are ready for much growth. Please pray as God leads.

#5 Guard my Church Family…
Philemon 1:7 “Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.”
Refreshment is the prayer I pray for our church family. God is going to use them supernaturally this year.

If you would agree with me in prayer this year and regularly pray this prayer for me, would you comment here or email me at shannon@brandnewchurch.com.

God pruned many of us in 2009 to prepare us for his works to be accomplished by us in 2010. Praying for you, Cindy, and the kiddos. Praying for BNC and the new work God has granted. After a time of pruning comes a time of fresh and abundant fruit if we commit to God’s leading.

I think that all too often, as a congregation under you, we forget that you, too, are human and in your position, you’re constantly either under someone’s microscope or you’re someone’s bullseye. This year I aim to pray for you and your family daily – for your protection against all things un-Holy, for your marriage, your children, your wisdom, and for God to continue to use each of you in His own way to build, grow, and glorify His kingdom.

  9. I will take your challenge Shannon and pray for you specifically each day. I have a blogging friend who is fond of saying that she prays “dangerous” prayers for me. I now do the same for others. I will say those dangerous prayers for you that will encompass all you have asked. Would appreciate your prayers for me.
