Qualities of Prevailing Pastor/Leader

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 02 December 2010

Continuing this week is the thought of prevailing leadership in the church. Again, after having the privilege to meet several pastors in the last few months these characteristics are OBVIOUS!

#1 Serious about Marriage
Every leader I know, with increasing influence are passionate, about their marriage. They realize their marriage is a picture of their salvation. Jesus is the Groom; we are the Bride…red hot marriage equals a great relationship with Christ.

#2 Serious about God’s Word
Believing God’s Word is inspired, relevant and is at the center of everything they accomplish.

#3 Risk Takers
Taking risk is a “cool” topic to discuss and tweet about, but real leaders are living it. Not just once, but often!

#4 Networkers
Great leaders recognize they cannot do it on their own. They surround themselves with others BETTER than themselves.

#5 Creative
Great leaders are always bringing something NEW and FRESH to the table. The have a keen ability to see things differently.

#6 Team Builders
Building and pouring into the right people is a prevailing leaders specialty. All around you are leaders, gifted talents, and entrepreneurs at every pastor’s disposal. Prevailing leaders see it in them, before most.

#7 Maximize Influence
Every pastor/organizational leader is an influencer and creating influence comes natural. A few ways I see them capitalizing…SOCIAL MEDIA, COMMUNITY OUTREACH to the NEEDY, and COACHING NETWORKS. If you are not capitalizing on these three…start today!

#8 Loyal to His Church
Loyal and faithful to build the work they have been called to. Not looking at the church/organization the wish they were at, but building what they have been given with VISION and FIRE.

Some Prevailing Pastors/Leaders impacting my life right now are… Craig Groeschel, Ed Young, Jentezen Franklin, Judah Smith, Willie George, Troy Grambling, and Dino Rizzo.

Great post Shannon! I am so glad that you are my mentor, because I am learning so much and when the day comes for me to pastor a church, that I have the mantle that God has upon you right now. God bless you and Cindy and the kids!!!
