SEXODUS

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 17 August 2010

sexodus-modernI am finalizing our next series entitled “SEXODUS” and I want your input. Churches all over the country have covered this topic excellently for the past decade, but I want to laser our focus. Help me with the following issues:

#1 What issue is the most pressing?
#2 What parenting helps are a must for discussion?
#3 Do you like the title and subtitle? What would you change?
#4 What are some elements (songs, dramas, videos) that have worked in your environment?
#5 How long should the series last?
#6 What sources should be referenced?
#7 What resources should we make available to our audience?
#8 What ages should be present in our auditoriums?
#9 What song genre should we play with the trailer?
#10 What scripture references cannot be overlooked in this series?

Post your comments below and let’s watch this series impact our culture with a Revival of Holiness and Biblical Morality! Give your input on one, two or all questions, even add information not covered in these questions! You will be credited for each idea we plagiarize. Thanks!

I like the title and subtitle. There could be several analogies made with the original exodus. The Israelites were fleeing bondage and going to the promised land prepared for them by God. We, as Christians, can flee the cultural bondage and experience the promised land of oneness as God intended.

There was song back in the 80′s that might be appropriate for the topic: “I Want Your Sex” by George Michael.

Proverbs 5:19 is a personal favorite, but you have used it before. Anything from the Song of Solomon. The fact that this book is also known as the Song of Songs stresses how important God’s plan for sex is. It is not just any every day common song, it is the SONG of Songs.

Just some thoughts. Looking forward to it.

Awesome title, sounds like a great series that many need to attend. This subject has gone way beyond God’s boundries. People need to know and understand what God tells us about this. Looking forward in hearing what God gives you to teach.

On the length of the series, it needs to be length of what God gives you, no more no less.

Looks like an awesome series and I love the graphic. As for the most pressing issue, that’s difficult. Ultimately it is a heart issue. If I love God more than my significant other, than I will follow God’s rules about relationships and sex. I know with the congregation I serve the most pressing issue is that of pre-marital co-habitation and getting people to understand the ‘why’ it is wrong to do so.

Parenting helps could include workshops on how/when to talk to kids about sex, because if they don’t hear it from parents, they will from classmates/friends/television.

As for the ages, I would take the route of “this is a PG-13 sermon series. If you feel your child is old/mature enough to be in here, we strongly encourage it, if not we have options available.”

It sounds like a great series!
