Pastors Christmas Offense

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 13 December 2010

The Christmas Spirit has saturated me this year. (I even let the cats in my house last night…but just for a few minutes). I love what our culture brings to enhance this time of the year…movies, goodies, decorations and lights. We as the church should leverage these opportunities to promote Christ. Instead on many occasions we have become Scrooges, often making our message one of hate and defensiveness. Yes, the world is stealing so much of the “reason for the season,” but we can change that one church at a time.
How?
NATIVE ACTIVITY
The Nativity Scene is being removed from school plays, offices, storefronts and city parks for one reason…Jesus has not become “native” in our daily lives. Our bedrooms, living rooms, playrooms, classrooms, boardrooms, courtrooms, homerooms and even restrooms should not be surprised by prayer, evangelism, Bible reading or vibrate praise. When this happens in full force, and with consistency, (not perfection) our world will change it’s view.
CHRIST-MASS
The Body of Christ must celebrate the daily “Eucharist” as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. Feeding, clothing and gifting the poor, widow, needy and less fortunate is a great place to start. People will see CHRIST when we show Christ love as His Body.
PREPARED, PURPOSED, PLANNED EVE SERVICES
Christmas Eve is the new time for our culture to attend and pay homage to their “faith” in Christ, so make it COUNT. Wow them with the presence of God, prayed up leaders and a powerfully communicated teaching from the flawless Word of God.
HAPPY HOLY-DAYS
Live in the fullness of Christ 365 days a year through giving, serving, reading, sharing, everywhere you go. Holiness, and experiencing it’s joy, comes through a life submitted to Christ. Desiring and pursing holiness will change you and those around you. 2011 could be the greatest opportunity the church has ever had to show Jesus through financial difficulty. CS Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
Xmas, Holidays, Kwanza, Hanukkah or Anti-God, let JESUS CHRIST shine through our lives to this world that is still seeking to find Him!
