January 9th I became convicted about my appearance physically becoming a stumbling block. I weighed 263 pounds and today I weigh 214. Many say they love my messages, my ministry, my vision, and my love for God’s church. The most sincere praise I have ever received, as a pastor, is the encouragement the church gives me concerning my weight loss. “Pastor, thank you for your discipline.” The reality of “what” I believe, and truly “believing” has tangibly been accomplished in their eyes. How did I do it?

#1 Discipline
The is the key to being a disciple. I hate it and fight it daily. I just tell my mouth…”that is not going in there.”
#2 Eating “living” food.
No whites…sugar, enriched flour, potatoes, rice, or pasta. No fried. Eating primarily salads, fruit, vegetables, chicken, and nuts. Daily menu…Breakfast – Apple, Water, Vitamins Lunch – Salad and 6 ounce Chicken Breast Dinner – Salad, Fruit and 6 ounce Chicken Breast. Once you are at desired weight you can vary meats and fruit and incorporate some whole grains.
#3 My wife.
Cindy has helped with preparing good menus and providing healthy snacks. She also did it with me so I did not have to do it alone.
#4 I did not diet.
Diets do not work for me. Yes I could lose a quick 20, but never keep it off. Transformation in the mind is the key. I have made the choice to eat this way for the future!
The Benefits…

#1 Greater testimony.
Health communicates!
#2 More energy.
Having the want to is important with four kids at home!
#3 Greater physical intimacy with Cindy.
Weight loss increases stamina, energy and desire.
#4 Honors the Temple.
The Holy Spirit deserves a healthy house!
This is difficult, but so rewarding. Let me know if I can help you achieve success.

Danny Thomas says,
Hey Pastor Shannon,
You are right on target about not dieting. The key thing is the change to healthier eating habits and developing a happier lifestyle. When we are in control of our eating habits instead of them controlling us, we are happier children.

Thanks so much for putting this on facebook so we can all join in with you both. I am 77yrs old and want to do His will for many more years to come.

Gary Lambert says,
I have changed the way my family views food. If it doesn’t rot or mold in 10 days don’t eat it. Grow a garden. Praise GOD for everything you have. He provides what we need not what we want. I have lost 45 pounds from 265 down to 220.
