Why Commitment is Not Enough

By Shannon O'Dell / Posted on 14 February 2011

Love is such an misunderstood word. Cindy and I now call our culture’s definition “LOKE”. We don’t truly love, we just “like” love. True love is a Tri-Fecta of truth: #1 Agape-you love without any conditions. Unconditional Love. #2 Phileo-Best friend kinda love. Wanna be with and go with them ALL THE TIME. Would lay down your life kinda love. #3 Eros-Erotic love, intimate physical passions. This is the definition God has given us for LOVE.

To experience God’s love in a relationship you must stop being COMMITTED and enter into a COVENANT. What is the difference?
COMMITMENT – You are still in control.
COVENANT – God is in control and it is a matter of life or death.

Start today in a “till death do us part” relationship. With your wife, vocation, ministry and most importantly your obedience to God. The reason many couples today just “LOKE”, and are just committed, is they started with #3 Love instead of #1 Love. Don’t start with the physical infatuation and flirtation, dive in unconditionally and watch what God can do.

Great word! It is a covenant not a commitment! Keep bringing the truth to the sticks Shannon!
